Humanity has learned over the centuries to harness the sun's energy in many ways ...

But then it became easier and more convenient to use fossil fuels to generate the energy humanity needs ... more and more energy ... increasingly more and more wars ...

Pollution ... more deaths ... and always MORE PROFITS FOR FEW AND COLLATERAL DAMAGES TO MANY ...

The formula is simple: PRIVATE PROFITS AND COLLATERAL DAMAGE TO THE COMMUNITY ...

Yet today the most modern technologies can transform this gigantic gift of the Sun in energy humanity needs ... without wars ... without pollution, without global warming, and at rapidly decreasing costs, and are ALREADY TODAY COMPETITIVE WITH FOSSIL FUELS IF we were to include IN THESE THE COSTS OF COLLATERAL DAMAGES ... WITHOUT COUNTING THE DEATH TOLL...

ALREADY TODAY WIND ENERGY IS COMPETITIVE IN TERMS OF PRODUCTION COSTS WITH FOSSIL FUELS IN MANY PARTS OF THE WORLD, AND SOLAR POWER - THAT HAS ALREADY REACHED GRID PARITY in many places with high insolation, WILL BECOME MORE COMPETITIVE IN TERMS OF PRODUCTION COSTS WITH FOSSIL FUELS WITHIN THE NEXT 7-10 years.

HYDRO, SOLAR, THERMAL, SOLAR, WIND, BIOMASS powers and their variants are the most common and more developed forms of renewable energy...

Considering only two forms of renewable energy - wind and solar - the forecast of installed capacity worldwide at the end of 2015 (i.e. tomorrow) is as high as 418 GW of installed wind power and 239 GW of installed solar power ... and this corresponds, in terms of electricity produced, to approximately 175 nuclear power plants of 1 GW each!  And all this will have taken place practically since 2005, that is in just 10 years!

And the growth of renewables continues in the double digits in the world, whilst the decline of the nuclear power continues and the growth of power generation from fossil fuels continuously slows down ...

Obviously the lobbies of fossil fuels try to slow down this process ... and they have the firepower to do it ... BUT THEY MAY ONLY SLOW DOWN AND NOT STOP THE PROCESS of decarbonisation of the WORLD ...

And when the most enlightened rulers understand the implications ... they will side in favour of CITIZENS instead of being in favour of FOSSIL FUELS ... and the era of the latter will be over.

In Italy for example, it would be enough to cover only 1% of the national territory with photovoltaic panels for all the electricity that Italy needs ... Sure 3,000 km² is a large surface area ... but it is less than the 4,100 km² lost to cement since 1990 in Lombardy alone ...

And then there are roofs, parking lots, solar greenhouses and non-cultivable lands to be exploited ...

And then there's the wind ... the solar thermal ... the mini-wind ... the mini-hydro ... the biofuels from agricultural waste products...

In short, if we want it, Italy can be PRACTICALLY INDEPENDENT FROM FOSSIL FUELS WITHIN 20 years at most ... with huge direct economic benefits (today we have an energy bill of € 60 billion that go abroad each year) and indirect (costs related to pollution and health) already in the medium term.

It would be enough just to want it, with serious policies that favours the spread of renewable energy, primarily by removing bureaucratic obstacles that have been put in place in recent years to obstruct it and then with a clear and safe incentives policies for the medium term.
